Equipment Maintenance

Our mechanic, Mike McCarthy, has been working for the past few weeks on servicing all of our utility cart equipment, including oil changes, spark plugs, air filters, ball joints, and brakes. Mike will now be working on the bunker machine and the rough mowers. The final winter jobs will be the grinding of all of our reel mowers including tee, collar, greens, and fairway mowers. This is the process that separates a golf course mechanic from an auto mechanic. Mike is the best in the business when it comes to grinding reels, as well as other small details that allows us to mow the turf at the heights the membership as asked for. Mike is the unsung hero of MGC and that really shows when the equipment rolls out in the spring without any problems. Thanks again Mike.

Light Pole Removal

We removed the old light pole from parking lot last week. This pole has not been in use for many years and had become an eyesore. This light was not approved for use in the lighting plan of the new clubhouse but has been replaced with two sets of flood lights on the cart barn.

Tree Work

With the holidays behind us and the ground frozen the time is now to start the winter tree work on the golf course, Greenwood Tree is on property this week to handle all of the work. We have removed the white pine and cherry from around the European Hornbeams that we planted last year behind the 8th tee. This will allow more sunlight to the 7th green and allow for the more desirable Hornbeams to flourish. Another White Pine will be removed along the 9th hole to allow for a better turf stand in the rough. We will be pruning and installing a cable on the Lindens along the 4th hole and pruning the Red Maple on the 1st hole. Across the street we will be removing some dead ash trees as well as the Locust that interferes with tee shots off the 6th tee.
